A Jukai Ceremony in Our Own Zendo!

May 15, 2025
The members of Flowing River Sangha were filled with gratitude during their Zazenkai on Feb 1 as one of their own completed her Jukai ceremony. This is the first time that Flowing River has had a Jukai ceremony in our own Zendo! We thank Daisetsu for traveling from Red Rose Sangha (Lancaster, PA) to lead the ceremony with the assistance of our own Sensei Gessho.
Thank you, Umika, for your commitment to the Buddhist precepts. Deep bows of gratitude from all of us.
For those who may not know, Jukai is a commitment to following the 16 Bodhisattva precepts. This includes a yearlong study with fellow candidates and preceptors (in this case with Daisetsu, Kaigetsu, and Sangetsu from Red Rose Sangha), sewing a rakusu (or miniature Buddha’s robe), and completing a kechimyaku (or lineage chart). We are grateful to Red Rose Sangha for offering Jukai to Flowing River sangha members!
